The free food drops almost always include a bag of apples. Green apples are usually on the sour side and better for baking. You can also peel the skin and put slices into a salad.

The longer looking apples are almost always red delicious. They are on the sweet side and better for eating than cooking.

The red rounder looking apples are almost always a good eating apple. Depending on the variety, they will be a combination of sweet and sour.

You can easily make an apple salad. Tear some lettuce or spinach into bite size pieces. Peel and cut up an apple an put the pieces over the lettuce. Make sure no one you are feeding has a nut allergy. If not, use walnut or pecan pieces over the apples and lettuce. Add some pieces of blue cheese and you have an apple salad.
