Our local supermarket usually marks down clearance items on Wednesday. We were not able to get into town until Friday last week. We were able to find several clearance fresh vegetables on clearance. The best buy for us ended up being cans of albacore tuna for .99 that have a sell by date for 2024. We also found one Bolthouse drink on clearance, which we shared.
The Saturday food drop included a dozen eggs, two pounds of ground bison meat, oatmeal, peanut butter, lots of canned vegetables and canned soups, and a bottle of salad dressing. We have chickens, so it would seem like we wouldn't need the eggs. But I like the older eggs because they peel better when they are hard boiled. We used half the hardboiled eggs as the protein in the salad mixes we found on clearance. The other half we made into egg salad for sandwiches.
The big bowl of cut up vegetables went into several meals. The broccoli and cauliflower were used in three stir fry meals. The carrots, onions, and red pepper were used in two different homemade soups.
Our grocery mail us coupons in the mail that are based on what we typically purchase. We were able to buy a red pepper with a .45 cent off coupon. We spent $10 in the fresh vegetable section, including the clearance items, so we received $2 off with a coupon.
