The free food pickup rarely has brand name items, so this week was a surprise. I am not a fan of ground turkey, though it is a great substitute for hamburger. There are several families in town that are at food risk, we will pay this forward to them. I've had ground turkey twice. The first time was from a butcher who was willing to grind raw turkey for a Thanksgiving turkey roll recipe. He would only grind the raw turkey at the end of the day, just before he takes apart the machine to clean it at closing time. The ground raw turkey was then press out, layered with a cornbread stuffing, rolled and placed in a bread loaf pan to bake. It was amazing. Almost 20 years later, I had turkey lasagna. The meal was served the night before as a Sunday dinner. A few of us had it reheated the next evening. I've honestly never been so sick with food poisoning that I was after eating the ground turkey that was in the lasagna. It cost me a doctor appointment, medication and two days sick leave. It is still too vivid a memory, so I refuse to eat ground turkey.

We will save this item for a holiday meal when we have company. Main Street potato dishes are yummy, we were fortunate to have this find in our food pickup.

We were also thankful to find a family size box of Cheerios in our food pickup. I don't eat or like very many cereals, but this one is a favorite. I usually eat cereal in the middle of the afternoon or late evening as a snack.
